Defense Wins Big Games

Wow, what a game, one of the best wins in our school's history.

Very rarely are the Wildcats considered underdogs, especially big ones like last night, but man did our team step up.

I do not think it can be said enough, but if anyone, I mean ANYONE, can find a better team defensively in the country please let me know. Kentucky held the "best team in the country" to a measly 30% shooting from the field. The only player that consistently made shots all game was Dielber, but then again, he didn't shoot that much because our defense was possessed.

It was almost as if UK had six players on the court, EVERY shot was at least contested if not blocked. As a team we had 11 blocks, yes, 11. That is an awesome statistic considering how many people did not think we stood a chance. Our defense prevailed, and won us the game, especially Deandre Liggins. I have been so pleased all year with his hustle and defense, and nowadays I love his trash talking. He got into it in the second half. I like Deandre for his knowledge of the game, he knows that basketball is not all raw talent but that basketball is such a mental game. He constantly gets in the other teams' head and distracts them.

Last night was a moment of euphoria, one that I will never forget, but not because we beat Ohio State. I will remember last night and will remember it because of the adversity this team has over come. No longer will we look back and say:

"oh that team was good but we struggled because of the 5 draft picks of last year"
"yea last year was fun but I can't wait for next year and the recruits!"
"last year was what I expected, we were okay"

No, no....we will now look back on this "underdog" team and say, wow, those Wildcats played for the name on the FRONT of the jersey, they wanted the wins so bad.

Oh, and for those who have said Calipari is a bad coach, who is laughing now? He took a VERY shallow team of three freshman and a group of three scrappy veterans and took down the "Goliath" of the tournament. I said it before and I will say it again...Jorts just does not want to go home. I love it. It always makes me happy when our players play with heart, have a good time, and represent our school to the fullest.

Go, Cats....bring it, UNC
