Is Braeden Anderson a Necessity?

Big news today as "UK recruit" Braeden Anderson spoke about his trip to UK/Rupp Arena to see the Cats beat the Gators. He talked about his offers from other schools, his de-commitment from DePaul, and where he stands on the battle between Kansas and Kentucky.

Anderson spoke about how Kansas is seeing him today, March 3, and how Cal has not officially traveled to see him. UK has also not officially offered him, yet. He did however comment on UK and the atmosphere of Rupp saying UK fans are "crazy" and "know everything about basketball" and how he could "see myself being in Terrence Jones' position playing the 3 and 4." This is all good stuff, and we all know about Trevor Lacey and the sharp shooting abilities he has, but would Anderson be a better target?

Braeden Anderson is 6'9", 240 lbs, and can play the 3, 4, and even the 5 (given his length). UK (barring uncertainties) will most likely be losing Terrence Jones to the draft. Knight and Lamb are questionable as of now (if Lamb went I'd be shocked). Comparing that info with the fact we will be getting a handful of freakishly athletic guys next year, and you can see UK will be deep at the guard positions, even without Lacey.

With the loss of Jones that leaves UK with the freshman Davis, Vargas (if he is still here), and who else to play down low? Kyle Wiltjer is listed at 6'9" but he is more of a sharp shooting 3/4 position. Davis is amazing but still could gain some weight. I already know the athletes we have will allow for a smaller line up, but not having depth at the big man positions has hurt UK all season, even if the stats do not argue that. Every good team has one or two good big men.

So unless the NCAA stops sucking and Enes says "nah" to a lottery pick in the draft, UK will once again be shallow at the center position. I, along with all of you, would prefer to see Vargas sit on the bench next year just as much as he has this year. So maybe Braeden Anderson is the big athlete we need. Yes, is not a highly touted 5star recruit, but UK needs some good athletes to stay more than a year to compliment our number one in the nation recruiting classes.

More on Braeden Anderson in the NEAR future, he isn't Kanter, but he could be the missing link to depth next year.

Go Cats
