SEC Tournament Scenario Tiebreakers
Amazingly enough entering today there are 4 teams in the SEC East that could clinch the 2 seed and none of them control their own destiny...oh those crazy tie-breaker rules. What makes this even better is that none of the teams are playing a cupcake like Auburn. Vanderbilt is at home but is matched up against Florida who is the top seed in the conference and playing for an outright SEC regular season championship. Georgia is at an Alabama team desperate for another SEC win to bolster their tournament resume and possibly finish tied as SEC Champions. Kentucky is playing at Tennessee on Sunday when a lot of this will be sorted out. Either team could be playing to clinch the 2 seed. Below is a run down of each scenario and who would get the resulting bye.
Saturday games: Florida at Vanderbilt, Georgia at Alabama
Sunday games: Kentucky at Tennessee
Scenario 1: Vanderbilt wins, Georgia loses, Kentucky loses, Tennessee wins
2) Vanderbilt, 3) Kentucky, 4) Tennessee, 5) Georgia
Scenario 2: Vanderbilt wins, Georgia wins, Kentucky loses, Tennessee wins
2) Vanderbilt, 3) Georgia, 4) Kentucky, 5) Tennessee
Scenario 3: Vanderbilt wins, Georgia loses, Kentucky wins, Tennessee loses
2) Kentucky, 3) Vanderbilt, 4) Georgia, 5) Tennessee
Scenario 4: Vanderbilt wins, Georgia wins, Kentucky wins, Tennessee loses
2) Vanderbilt, 3) Kentucky, 4) Georgia, 5) Tennessee
Scenario 5: Vanderbilt loses, Georgia wins, Kentucky loses, Tennessee wins
2) Georgia, 3) Tennessee, 4) Kentucky, 5) Vanderbilt
Scenario 6: Vanderbilt loses, Georgia wins, Kentucky wins, Tennessee loses
2) Kentucky, 3) Georgia, 4) Vanderbilt, 5) Tennessee
Scenario 7: Vanderbilt loses, Georgia loses, Kentucky loses, Tennessee wins
2) Tennessee, 3) Kentucky, 4) Vanderbilt, 5) Georgia
Scenario 8: Vanderbilt loses, Georgia loses, Kentucky wins, Tennessee loses
2) Kentucky, 3) Vanderbilt, 4) Georgia, 5) Tennessee

At least there is no way we can be the 5 seed as that would have meant a day 2 matchup against Florida
ReplyDeleteThe craziest scenario is if Vandy and Georgia lose, then kentucky and tennessee will be playing for the 2 seed
ReplyDeletei can't believe tennessee still has a chance at the 2...losing to them tomorrow would be bad enough but that would just make me sick
ReplyDeleteBama is up 6 or 7 on UGA at the half. If the Dawgs go down, then we control our own destiny tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteGo Cats!(Roll Tide!)
do you think alabama's in if they win this game?
ReplyDeleteGood question.. I think if they flame out in the first game of the SEC Tournament, and it's to a particularly bad team; any West team or South Carolina / UT, then they will still be right on the bubble. Win one SEC Tourney game and they should be in.
