Another Reason to Know Your UK Trivia Facts...

Remember when UK beat North Carolina to reach win #2000 for the program in the 2009-2010 year in Calipari's first season? That was a great win to watch and for the program. To not only reach win 2000 (and continue our position as the Winningest Program in College Basketball) but to do so against one of our top rivals. To see the look on Roy Williams face as the balloons fell and the celebration started. And the fun our players had flashing their 'UK 2K' shirts in the NC players faces letting Roy, the NC players, and the NC fans know that they of all people gave us win 2000...

Wait, what??? That doesn't sound right! If you're well up on your UK facts then hopefully the above statement immediately sent up red flags. Win #2000 came against North Carolina? I don't think so. As great as that would have been we actually beat Drexel to secure win 2000. The UK-NC game was four games before win #2000.

Why am I bringing this up? Well it just so happened that the other day I was walking through a store (which one is unimportant, we're not here to take away business from anyone!) and noticed that they were selling a very large picture from a UK game with the caption of "First to 2000". It was a nice picture from the end of a game, right before the last seconds expired. The problem though was that it was from the UK-NC game NOT the UK-Drexel game, therefore although the caption (and price of the framed picture) would make you think the picture was related to that special day, it happened to be from a game before win 2000.

The season (and thus players) were accurate. The time frame was close, but in the end it was a picture that didn't match the caption. My point here is to illustrate that sometimes knowing UK sports facts and statistics can do more than impress people. It may save you from buying something that isn't accurate.

Bottom line: If you are going to buy UK memorabilia (especially pictures) make sure that everything matches up and you are getting the item you think you are purchasing.
