Kentucky and Western Kentucky have played 5 times with Kentucky winning 3 of those.  The last time they played was in 2001 when Western Kentucky upset No. 4 ranked Kentucky in the season opener at Rupp Arena.  That team was coached by Dennis Felton and had a freshman named Patrick Sparks on it.  The Cats and Hilltoppers have met twice in the NCAA tournament with Western Kentucky beating Kentucky in 1971 on their way to a Final Four appearance.  The teams also met in 1986 with Kentucky winning in the second round by 7.  Also of note, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Derrick Gordon were teammates last year at St. Patrick High School in New Jersey.  Western Kentucky is coached by Ray Harper who took Kentucky Wesleyan to 2 Division 2 championships and 4 runner ups in a 6 year span.  He also went on to Oklahoma City where he won 2 NAIA championships and 1 runner up over a 3 year span.  Thus he is on pace to at least get to the National Championship game this year...I think right?
