Can Kentucky Get a 3 Seed?

Right now Joey brackets aka Joe Lunardi of ESPN Bracketology, projects Kentucky as a 4 seed in the NCAA tournament. Being a UK fan, the first thing that comes to mind is, if Kentucky was to win the SEC tournament, could we receive a 3 seed? I think so. Our likely path to the finals would be to beat Ole Miss, Alabama, and then the winner of the lower part of the bracket, presumably Florida, or Vandy. Even though Kentucky received a VERY favorable draw, playing bubble teams won't help our resume' as much as being on the bottom half of the bracket. Beating Ole Miss and Bama probably wouldn't improve our seeding too much even though it would be nice to get sweet revenge on those two teams from our previous losses on the road. But, if we were to defeat Florida or Vandy in the title game, that would likely boost our RPI, and definitely help to get a 3 seed.

Although the selection committee has already stated that AP/Coaches poll rankings have no effect on seeding, our AP ranking gives a clue of our standing as it stands right now. Being that Kentucky is ranked 15 in the last rankings, one could come to the conclusion that in order to receive a 3 seed, Kentucky would have to leap 3-5 teams to be safe. Those teams ranked 10-14 are Texas,Syracuse,Florida,Wisconsin, and Louisville. That would mean that Kentucky would have to win the SECT, and hope that none of those teams win their respective tournaments. If I was a betting man (and my new 50 inch T.V. tells me I am) then I would say that none of those teams are the favorite to win their tournament. Syracuse, and Texas present the biggest challenges to at least reach the title game.

So basically UK fans should root against each of those teams in the coming week, as well as obviously hoping Kentucky takes care of business and win the SEC. So here is to the crazy week ahead of us, hopefully filled with upsets galore, fake doctors notes, and another SEC crown. And if somehow Arkansas chose to win out and meet us in the finals so that we could conquer every team that has beaten us in the SEC, well that would be fine with me. #Winning
