Conference Realignment and Playoffs

In the conference realignment scenario presented below you can almost start to see the basis for a playoff system.  4 Super conferences (ACC, Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC) along with 2 mediocre conferences (Big 12 and  Mountain WAC) could give you 6 spots in a playoff system.  You'd still use the human and computer polls to rank the 6 as well as add 2 wild card teams that have the highest ranking that didn't win their conference.

You could keep the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange bowls as the first round games and allow 2 to host next weeks Semifinals and a third would get the Championship game with a rotating schedule as is done with the Championship game location already.

You could also add the Cotton and Citrus bowls into the mix with each of the six bowls getting a First Round or Semifinal matchup.  The Championship game would then rotate each year.

Looking at last years BCS teams and the BCS standings we would of had these First Round Matchups (BCS rank in parentheses):

Auburn (1) SEC
Virginia Tech (15) ACC

Stanford (4)  WC
Wisconsin (5)  WC

Oregon (2)  Pac 16
Boise St. (11)  MWAC

TCU (3)  Big 16
Ohio St. (6)  Big 10 (we don't care how many teams we have we aren't changing our name)

Tell me that does not look AWESOME!
