SEC + Texas A&M Madness

Most of the talk around Lexington this week has been around our questionable football team and the lack of our receivers to actually catch the football. Amongst all of this talk and the "big game" against Central Michigan this weekend, there has been even more "development" in the Texas A&M to the SEC talk.

The Big 12 (9), the SEC, and Texas A&M have been in limbo for the last month or so about the Aggies wanting to move to SEC country. At first it was the SEC saying no way, then it was A&M saying well maybe not, but now it appears the Big 12 (9) is in full control of the Aggies. It all started with Baylor yesterday saying the refused to let go of the contract that A&M was supposed to uphold to the Big 12. The Bears stated that A&M will be sued if they leave, for a lot.

This trend immediately seemed like the thing to do for the teams that would be lost with no Big 12 (Kansas and Iowa State along with Baylor). These three teams, if the Big 12 were to fizzle, would be hard pressed to find a new worthy home if the new "power conferences" have not already been formed. So, along with Baylor, it appears those three schools agreed to not agree on A&M to the SEC. However, the story gets even more interesting...

As of late this evening, news broke that all nine remaining teams in the Big 12 (A&M is the 10th) would be okay with A&M leaving for the SEC under one condition (well, maybe 8 of the 9). That condition is that if Oklahoma stays loyal to the Big 12 and promises to stay, then the teams would rescind their contracts for A&M and allow the Aggies their wanted release to the SEC.

BUT, Oklahoma was the only school this evening that said they would currently be okay with A&M leaving for the SEC, meaning the other 8 teams decided that the Aggies should not have an easy release. It appears that all of the pressure is now on OU. The Sooners have a tough decision to make. Apparently the AD and school do not want to go to the future Pac 16 because they do not like the idea of a power conference. They also are apparently okay with a 9 team conference on the fast track to destruction. If the Big 12 dwindles to nothingness, what will OU do? Well, for the time being, it all comes up to the Sooners committing to the Big 12 for Texas A&M to be allowed to go to the SEC.

All we can do is sit back and watch this whole mess play out, and watch Oklahoma have to make a very tough decision: commit to a very small dying conference? Or make no promises, in turn not allowing A&M to the SEC and keep the future of the Big 12 up in the air...

Whatever happens, we know that the SEC is wanting to expand. It would be cool to see the SEC grow to 14 teams, and continue to dominate the football world even more, while perhaps add a basketball school too.
