Kentucky NOT Playing Indiana and North Carolina In 2012-13 Season

Now that the 11-12 season is over and we know that all 5 of our main underclassmen are going pro and that the championship excitement is going away, all of our basketball attention turns to next season. Besides waiting on the last one or two players we pick up, the other big news going on right now is about the rivalry games.

News has been going on for awhile now that UK may not play Indiana next season (ending a rivalry series that has gone back to 1970) due to UK wanting to play on neutral sites and Indiana wanting to play home games. This has gone back and forth and while it seemed that after a recent meeting between Calipari and Indiana coach Tom Crean that the series might be able to continue, it has come out today that the two schools cannot reach an agreement and that the series is over meaning UK will not be playing Indiana for the 2012-2013 season.

Many of us saw this coming but some news has also been coming out today that UK will NOT be playing UNC next season either. This is not a definite yet (in contrast to the Indiana series which is definitely over for now), but according to The Courier Journal's Kyle Tucker "UNC associate AD tells @bylinep regarding UK 'right now, there is no intent to play in 2012-13.'" If this stays true then next season instead of the three big off season rivalry games we have become accustomed to recently, we will be reduced to just Louisville. Of course we can count on Calipari finding new teams to fill these slots but in the minds of fans, can you replace the loss of playing Indiana and UNC? Those are pretty big rivalries for many fans.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you glad we may bring in some new teams now to replace UNC and Indiana or would you rather have kept one or two of these games?
